BEST PHOTOGRAPHY ACCESSORIES 2019
We all know that the best way to shoot better photographs, is to get out and shoot more. But there are definitely some must have photography accessories that will make it a lot easier to capture the perfect photograph. I’ve put together a list of some essential items and other not so essential items that are just nice to have in your photographer kit. For most items on the list there are lots of different variations and brands that make the photography accessories, but these are just a few of my favourites.
Tripods are perfect for shooting at slower shutter speeds, bracketing images, astro photography, self portraits and panoramas. They are one of the workhorses of the photographers kit. It is essential to get a tripod that can carry the weight of your camera and is sturdy enough not to cause micro vibrations as you take your shot resulting in a blurry image. I have made a list of what I think are the best tripods of 2019 you can find it here Best Travel Tripods 2019. this is defiantly my top photography accessory
A shutter realise is complementary to a tripod, it allows you to take photographs without touching the shutter button. This makes it perfect for all the scenarios where you will be shooting with a tripod as you wont have to touch the camera, thus eliminating those nasty vibrations that can ruin the perfect image.
I personally use a wireless shutter realise, this little accessory allows me to stand a great distance away from the camera and still operate the shutter. The one down side to this is that you require batteries for the shutter relish to work. The second option is one that connects to the side of your camera, a wired shutter realise. These have the advantage of not needing batteries mostly. On the other hand you do need to be close to your camera to get the shot.
You can never have enough of these little guys, it’s such a small simple item on this list, but its something every photographer should have in their kit. I have listed the one that I use below. but even a lens cloth for your glasses will do the trick here. This is a handy little kit as it has a rocket included.
This is also a pice of kit that will help to keep your camera clean, it comes in especially useful if you have dust on your sensor. To clean your senior you take off you lens, lock your mirror up (if your camera has one) and blow a few blasts of air in to clear the dust. But you must be extremely careful not to touch the sensor if you want to know more on how to clean your sensor click here.
Camera filters are extremely useful when trying to expose an image properly, slow down your shutter speed, add a colour cast or mist to your image. Personally I only use them for exposure porpoises usually to bringing down the sky so that it’s not over exposed. And long exposures where you want to capture the movement of the sky or the water. I use lee filter system and find them great for landscape.but they are expensive. I know some people who use the screw on filters on love them also. But be warned not all filters are created equally, some will give your photos a funny colour cast. The poorest quality ones will leave a funny lines on your photos.
Polarisers fit on the end of your lens and will cut back the glare on your photo. Especially on water it can cut out all reflection on the image and take the shine look of it. This can not be achieved any other way. They can also be used to enhance a photos colour making it more vibrant.
Backpacks are not an essential accessory to photography although they are a great way of transporting or carrying your camera gear. The benefit of having a camera backpack is that it is designed specifically to carry you gear. They will have separate compartments usually for your camera, lenses and accessories. Most will have a compartment for clothes, laptop and other belongings and some will have an internal compartment for tripods, If not there will usually be a way to attach it to the outside of your backpack.
The camera strap that comes with your camera is usually not very nice or comfortable. It can also be very fiddly to put on and take off your camera. I like the design by peak design
As it is easily removable from the camera. I always take my strap off when I have my camera on the tripod, this just prevents the wind from coming and blowing it around causing camera shake. I will then attach it for when I’m walking around taking shots. This one really appealed to me for just how simple and easy it was to use.
This is one of my favourite accessories for hiking with a backpack. With the Peake design capture clamp you can always have your camera ready to shoot. It is small, compact and it’s an all round great design. It can come with a standard plate that will fit on most ARCA type tripods.
We have all been there, well I know I have. Going out to shoot landscapes and not having any gloves on. Your Hands get so cold that you can’t operate your camera comfortably. It’s not a nice feeling. These gloves are the perfect solutions for these situations. The tips of the gloves fold back exposing your thumb and finger giving you full tactile ability to operate the camera comfortability.
Storage cases are a vital part of your kit. They will speed you up in all areas of your photography, help keep your possessions tidy and in order. You can get them for your memory cards, and other bits and bobs like your shutter release and cleaning equipment.
These are my most used photography accessories to date. I mostly shoot landscapes so I have not included any portrait or speed lights in my list of top accessories for your camera but they are invaluable for any one shooting portraits, weddings or even architectural photography.
I hope you have found this information helpful, and it can help you to get out and shoot more photographs.
